Outdoor Blogger Network has announced the winners of the Montana Fly Company Fly Tying Designer Contest. A big “Oh YEAH!” We are very impressed–there are some talented designers out there. The first place win goes out Trevor McTage Tanner with his Primordial Crust fly. We liked how he used Swisher’s Rub-a-Dub in the body and fuzzed it all out. Trevor will be featured in the Montana Fly Company Catalog and receive royalties off the sales of his fly. Plus, we rewarded him with a hat and a MFC Madison Reel.
In second place, Chris Kulow won with his Kebari Fly. His Kebari is clearly the most beautiful of the bunch. It’s tied very well, and the use of the little glass bead in the body is sharp. It’s pretty cool to see a Tenkara pattern in the top three! Chris receives a hat and a Brook Trout Water Bottle. And, rounding out the winner’s circle in third place is Josh Calkins with the Curtain Climber. We’re not sure why he calls it Curtain Climber, but we figure it has something to do with cats or small children. At any rate, it’s a nice streamer, and we can tell it will fish well. We are sending him one of our MFC Waterproof box, a hat and a pair of brown trout nippers. Thanks to all of our fly tying and fly fishing friends for your entries. Read the Outdoor Blogger Network Announcement here. Also! We are still taking some last minute design submissions to our 2012 fly lineup. Send us your best design, drop a pic on Fbook to grab our attention, and good luck!
